Honda Odyssey

Of course this has two meanings, one for the fact that I drive a Honda Odyssey and the other that we just took an adventurous trip to visit my family in WV.

On the first note the van was a joy. Not only did we have no issues, we actually enjoyed the time on the road (except one issue — more below). Sullivan got to watch a few videos (something that we reserve for long stints in the car) and we got to play with the navigation system and the XM radio.

I drove the entire trip up and made it in just over nine hours (7.5 actually driving) which was better than everyone had thought. We had reservations at a hotel just in case but realized after lunch that we would easily make it in one day.

It was great to see Grandmother Fauber and Laurie, it had been over thirty years since my Mom and Uncle had been back. I went several years ago, the spring before Sullivan was born, and the only noticeable difference was that the capital building was covered for repairs, a shame since it was a nice landmark on my last visit.

Unfortunately the most memorable part of this trip will be that I picked up Salmonella poisoning a stomach virus near the end of the trip. That meant the ride home was rough for me and the remainder of my time off was spent recovering. I am thankful that it wasn’t my wife or daughter that ate the egg that morning caught this, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. The surprise to me has been that it wasn’t as severe as I expected, but has lasted days now (a week tomorrow).
