I read this article over on the Christian Science Monitor about Journalism’s fear and loathing of blogs and it made me think. I may be more of a moderate on the topic, but since I work for big media and do not call myself a journalist (techie – perhaps) I figured it was worth me thinking about. I just don’t see blogs or anything toppling big media. The article makes good points on where blogs succeed and where they fail. For most, like myself, we are just chatting about things that interest us. Others have an agenda, whether to promote, idolize, or simply rant, some blogs need a filter. But the ‘blogosphere’ – and I strongly dislike the word – won’t have the time or money to investigate large scale issues, big media can and will. I expect there is a place for both. Bloggers will help make the small voices part of the conversation, something that was certainly missing.
