After reading this and thinking how cool it was I wondered why Flickr wouldn’t just do this on their own and then tonight I see that they have.

Even better is that you can take your photos and drop them on a map and it handles the details on coordinates, etc. So it makes it easy to geo tag your photos after you get home.

Here is one I did as a test.

Update: Today the Flickr blog notes that 1.2 million images were geo tagged in the first 24 hours.

  1. Flickr geotagging interface is brilliant, but Yahoo Maps coverage of most of the World is poor.

    If you prefer Google Maps for mapping photos, Panoramio, may be interesting for you. Btw, you can later watch the photos in Google Earth KML feed, a much better experience than web based maps.
