Google offers hosted communications apps

This is something many have said was coming, that Google will finally go after Microsoft in the Office suite category. I do think their is plenty of value in an online alternative to the MS suite and if MS doesn’t do it Google might as well.

While this announcement isn’t a direct indication they will follow with more apps I expect this shows that they will soon add to the suite and offer the web alternative to MS Office.

I noticed a few weeks ago that Spreadsheets appeared in the top row of Gmail beside the Calendar link. I wonder when the Writely acquisition will appear as – well Pages is taken – how about Documents?
