A visit to the first Waffle House

Well I mentioned before that I planned to visit the Waffle House museum nearby and this weekend with the in-laws here it seemed like the perfect chance.  It was pretty cool and the staff there was very knowledgeable about the history.

It was fun to hear about the start back in the 50′s, and according to the staff they currently have ~1600 stores across the South.  They said the have resisted making the stores any larger due to the long standing processes and efficiencies they have created around the precise setup in the stores.  They continually run studies on the use of the space, including counting steps and time to perform routine actions.  So in making the stores larger they would through off all their tuned processes.  This helps explain why you see two stores on opposite sides of the highway.

Other Decatur bloggers covered it as well and posted lots of pictures (and more).  It was also nice to learn that the upper Management team is largely Georgia Tech aumni.
