It has been a while since I posted a picture of Marin, who recently turned 3. She joined her sister this year at the Decatur School of Ballet. You can see her here lining up to get ready for some serious learning.

What a busy month
October 7th, 2008 · No Comments
It seems September and now October have turned out to be even busier than I expected - both at work and at home. I realized I hadn’t said much of anything for almost a month so I wanted to get something out. In early Sept. I had something happen that caused me to change course. A visit to Emory for a Heart Scan revealed that I had some risks, both from genetics and from my own doing.
That was enough to get me going - I have started paying close attention to what I eat and have a few goals to get myself on a course that will significantly lower my risks. It has been just over a month and all is well so far. I haven’t felt like it has been a tough sacrifice to give up certain things and since I am still quite active I have quickly dropped some weight.
It feels good to get back into college shape and ideally I will even get into the best shape of my life in the coming months. I am not sure if other major hospitals offer a deal on a similar test, but for anyone with a family history of …

HTML 5 spec not released until 2022?
September 14th, 2008 · No Comments
So will we really still be waiting for HTML 5 to get ratified in 2022? Of course the browsers will be supporting the new version before then and we are starting to see the advancements creep into browsers already. They likely will fully support the spec ahead of its official launch but this means that interpretations and more critically implementations can be slightly different and those left building the websites are stuck doing what we do now, accommodate all the variations in how browsers handle the code.
Ian Hickson, the editor of the HTML 5 specification, recently outlined the time table for HTML 5 and, even assuming browser manufacturers embrace HTML 5 when it reaches the final draft stage, that puts HTML 5’s widespread adoption at 2012. Worse, the final proposed recommendation won’t be released until 2022.

Bill Gates/Jerry Seinfeld commercials
September 12th, 2008 · No Comments
I am surprised that the masses are talking so much about these commercials and more importantly that they don’t understand that in doing so they have already accomplished what they desired - everyone is talking about them.
On Techmeme the top two stories today (and on the day of the first commercial) were about the campaign and how everyone doesn’t seem to get it. Michael Arrington, over on TechCrunch, says he is still confused. It just seems so obvious that the campaign is working because everyone is talking about it.

Waffle House museum
September 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment
I have eaten countless meals at Waffle House (though none lately) and always knew that they started here in GA. What I didn’t realize is that it actually started just a mile from where I live, near Avondale Estates.
The AJC has a story today on the founders and a new museum they have created in the spot of the very first location.
The Waffle House Web site (www.wafflehouse.com) gives a heap of golly-gee stats. Did you know that every year Waffle House serves enough grits to fill 86 semi-trucks? Enough eggs to make a 28-ton omelet? Enough bacon to stretch end-to-end from Atlanta to Los Angeles seven times?
They have a photo gallery up and the grand opening is tomorrow at 10am. Since Labor Day of 1955 they have been grilling up breakfast for and and everyone.
The museum will open by appointment only during the week but likely will open one weekend a month. I will be on the lookout so I can go check it out.
