So back a few months back I took the time to get everything set up in Mint and after a few initial issues with accounts was able to get everything I wanted added.
Now I haven’t been back very often, despite their nice email reminders, but I have casually noticed a few things.
First, the service seems behind and slow on the alerting side. I get emails about large transactions four or five days after it hit the bank. I am fortunate that I don’t have to steadily monitor my balances but if someone did then by the time they got the alert it would likely be too late.
I use Quicken at home and have it set up to pull updates every day so I know from it long before I get the email from Mint. The value in that service is that it is passive and should email me as soon as it notices the event. I don’t understand why it would take them so long to send out the alerts. The banking services post nightly (at least during the week) so they should be able to update everyone at least daily.
So for now Mint will continue to miss me. Hopefully these are still growing pains from such a hectic start.
