Nice bit on the recent trend on CNNMoney.com since we added an improved and enhanced video experience.  Jonathan Shar, CNNMoney.com GM and SVP,  comments that "we’re under our potential" and with the focus on the economy likely to continue through the Election cycle I expect he is correct.

The amount of video streams have moved the site to encompass 54% of all video streams in the financial category, according to Nielsen’s most recent Videocensus (other sites include MSN Money, Forbes and TheStreet.com). Streams have more than doubled since the launch.

Well  the TWX earnings are out and fell inline with what everyone expected.  On our side (cable) we had some strong numbers and overall the outlook remained intact which is good considering how many others are weakening.

Outlook: Separately the company announced that adjusted op income growth would come in at 7 to 9 percent for the year, and that it would earn $1.07-$1.11 per share. This is pretty much right in line with existing analyst expectations, so at least for now, the company isn’t calling for more overall weakening, which is good.

Now if that stock price would start to head north.

I didn’t see this coming but today AOL announced they purchased Bebo for $850 million.

Rumors had floated over the past few months that Bebo, which has over 40 million members, was up for sale. Reports suggested a $1 billion price tag, but there were few hints as to potential buyers. Though Bebo had already partnered with AOL’s AIM messaging client to facilitate friend-invite interoperability between the two services, even the most creative blogger speculation didn’t seem to point to AOL eventually buying the social network.

The story goes on to say this was all about advertising but I can’t help but wonder if this was an indirect play to make AOL look a little more attractive to its own potential buyers (or partners). Either way the younger audience that comes with Bebo will help AOL.

This little story crossed the wires this morning. They were reporting on a Wall Street Journal piece:

The paper reported that the talks center on a deal that would fold Time Warner’s AOL Internet unit into Yahoo, according to the people, who still consider a Yahoo purchase by Microsoft as the most likely outcome.

I still expect MS to make it happen, it is hard to compete with the funding they can pull together, but this would be a nice evolution for AOL.

This is currently number two on Techmeme.

Another effort that is now making the news. iReport.com will give us a more prominent outlet for all the submissions we already receive and hopefully encourage more to grow our audience.

Time Warner’s CNN this week will enter YouTube territory with the launch of iReport.com, a new Web site built entirely on user-produced news. And unlike CNN’s own properties—where only iReport submissions that have been handpicked by editors and checked for accuracy ever make it online or on air—the new site will be wide open, allowing users to post whatever content they choose, CNN said.

And paidContent has another story.

Update: The site is up and I attached a screen shot. And here are a few more stories – TechCrunch and Webware

Something that has been in the works forever has finally been closed and announced.

Now we extend our portfolio with another top tier sports league and continue to operate one of the best collections of web properties anywhere.

As expected, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. will take over the operations of NBA TV and NBA.com as part of a new joint venture with the National Basketball Association.

TBS, Inc. will handle programming, marketing and technical operations for the 12-million subscriber NBA TV digital television network, as well as the league’s NBA.com site, the league’s NBA League Pass out-of-market game package and the NBA’s broadband and wireless businesses.
